Alpha Bruton
Art Consultant and Chief Consultant/Curator, AACLP

Alpha Bruton completed her studies in Art Education, and the Teachers Credential Program in 1990, at California State University of Sacramento. Upon moving to Illinois, she completed her studies in the Masters of Art in Art Administration Program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in May of 2001. Formal training in studio art, art education, dance production, theater arts, and art gallery management gives Bruton the foundation to manage art educations programs.

Community Involvement: Bruton was the Visual Arts Director for Celebration Arts Visual Arts Project in Sacramento, California, where she coordinated the installations for Celebration Arts' “Art and Soul Festival" and the “African American Art Summit," 1990–93. She joined the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission as the Arts Education Coordinator for the City of Sacramento where she advocated for arts education programming in schools and neighborhoods. As Education Coordinator she developed and implemented artist in residence projects and conducted professional development trainings between 1992 – 1999.

Since relocating to Illinois, she held an internship at the Illinois Arts Alliance Foundation, TAP Committee in 2001. She served on the committee for Arts in Health Care at Oak Forest Hospital in 2002 and as co-chair for Switching Station Artist Lofts Resident Council from 2004-2006. She has also co-chaired the Arts and Cultural Committee, East Garfield Park New Communities Program/LISC, where she coordinated the Chicago Artist Month Tours, and Phantom Gallery Chicago.

Bruton is a newly appointed board member of Borderbend Arts Collective and producer of the Chicago Calling Arts Festival.
